The Vox article that I was interviewed for is up and running, and it contains some serious fuckign information about this whole fiasco.
Information that tumblr just straight up refused to provide to its userbase at all.
Unsurprisingly to those of us watching this website deteriorate over the last year, this full content purge and ban has been in progress for a solid 6 months. The date got moved up because of the child porn thing, but it was always coming for us.
Equally unsurprising: Tumblr’s management and ownership are absolutely destroying the actual staff working on it. The company has been hemoragghing senior staff without so much as a token attempt to keep them in place. So the drops in site quality are real, and wil probably only be getting worse.
Truly astonishing is the fact that apparently this crap was supposed to “double” the userbase by the end of next year. Boy, howdy, that’s not gonna work out well for them.

ATTENTION ALL FIC WRITERS: PLEASE CHECK YOUR MASTERLIST FOR POSTS FLAGGED AS INAPPORPRIATE!
I have just gone through my masterlist and about four of my fics were flagged as inappropriate by the tumblr algorithm and regulations. Ironically some had absolutely no smut in them, and all had no visually explicit pictures, images or videos.
Whatever tumblr are doing to find explicit posts is not working, and you may lose content because you are unaware. I had no e-mail correspondence regarding these flags, despite the Tunblr staff stating that blogs with posts like this would be notified by e-mail. I had to click every individual link on my masterlist to find the ones that needed attention.
You can lodge an appeal/ request for your posts to be reviewed and reclassified as not in violation of the new regulations, otherwise they will be archived privately and then deleted at a later date.
PLEASE CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOUR POSTS ARE ALL IN WORKING ORDER AND NOT INCORRECTLY FLAGGED. There seems to be no reason behind which posts they are tagging as inappropriate. Don’t risk losing your work!
Signal Boost! I haven’t received a SINGLE EMAIL and am having to go through my masterlists. I’ve got 200+ fics across dozens of fandoms so its taking forever, but unless you want to risk having something taken down wrongly, take some time to double check things. It could even be one chapter in the middle of a multichapter story.
Also; much MUCH easier to check this on the mobile site/app. For some reason flagged posts aren’t coming up on the desktop site.
That’s ridiculous. Is there a way to contest it?
I already uninstalled the app from my phone. Went through my fics and didn’t see any flagged so far. I’ve already mirrored everything on AO3.
What I would ask… is if you’ve enjoyed what I wrote, please PLEASE go over to my AO3 (same username – geminiloveca) and like or comment there. If/when Tumblr snaps me or decide I’ve had enough and leave (which honestly… I seriously thought about last night.) I’d hate to lose all the comments and flails.
And yes, even keyboard smashing flailing is welcome in my comments.
